Our New Designee Committee decided to organize a Volunteer opportunity for our Chapter at the Regional Food Bank at Patroon Land Farm. Shelby Dodd and Cody Cacicio took the lead on this event which occurred on Saturday June 3, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. They did a great job of organizing and publicizing the event. We had nine Chapter members who were present: Shelby Dodd, Cody Cacicio, Angela French, Dan Papierniak, Angela Zumbolo, Kathleen Armina, Khrystie Parks, Mark Dentinger and myself.  It was a great day to plant beets and scallions. It was also a fabulous opportunity to get better acquainted with our newer members.

The Farm had long rows prepped with fertilizer and plastic. A machine put three holes across the row all the way down the length of each row. Some members put the plants into or close to the holes. The other members pushed them down into the ground through the holes. Some of the members seemed to know exactly what they were doing and helped the members who had never done this type of activity. It was amazing how many rows we planted in the short time we were at the Farm

Everyone was a good sport with the weather being overcast, cool and sprinkling  rain on occasion. Some of the rows had muddy areas that felt more like quicksand once you stepped into it. Fortunately, there were not many of these areas. Workers from the Farm supervised us and kept us moving.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience and definitely for a good cause. Thank you to all who participated!!!
