Albany I DAY was held on May 3, 2017 at the Albany Marriott on Wolf Road.  The Northeastern New York Chapter of the CPCU Society was a sponsor of the event again this year. We manned a table displaying Insurance Education materials and fun giveaways donated by The Institute and The CPCU Society Membership Services. A Big  Thank You goes out to Fedel Philips who helped me greet our guests and to Melissa Brown for help with set up and obtaining materials from The Institute.  We added eighteen new names to our distribution listing from the event and we had a chance to meet some of our members who live a distance from Albany.

I saw several of our members at the event. Pat Crawford , Mark Dentinger, Eric Anderson and Karen Peters were on the Albany I DAY committee. The committee did an excellent job of providing a venue for networking, insurance education, great speakers and recognitions.

Karen manned the Registration desk along with her other duties on the Committee. Eric was front and center keeping the activities in progress.

Pat presented John Masselli with the 2017 Insurance Professional of the Year Award for his many achievements within the insurance industry and the community. John will be retiring at the end of the year so this was a special time to celebrate his many accomplishments. John was supported by his wife, Dana, many of his co-workers from New York Mutual Underwriters, members of our CPCU Chapter and so many other acquaintances. To know John is to love him. We will certainly miss him in 2018.

Mark presented the 2017 Fran Bartlett Memorial Scholarship to a  female high school senior headed to college in the Fall. He really enjoys working through the applications and picking the best candidate with his committee.

Pat actually won the 50/50 drawing and gave her half back to the Fran Bartlett Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Key Notes Speakers at the Luncheon were Eric Madoff, Executive Director and CEO of the New York State Insurance Fund, and Jimmy Patsos, Head Coach of the Sienna Saints Basketball Program. Both gentlemen provided insightful information to the Insurance Professionals present.

Prior to the luncheon, Tim Dodge, AU, ARM, CPCU presented a CEU credit approved class titled, “To Hack With It – Cyber Exposures and Regulations”. Tim is the assistant Vice Present of Research for Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New York Inc.  Our chapter sponsored Tim’s presentation.

Other chapter members present included past Presidents, Elaine Bortell, John Roessner and Rick Brisee, Vice President Nino Cogliandro, Mary Gregory, Barbara Madden, Linda Kimmey, Justin Wacenske, and Paul Waterfield. I apologize if I missed someone. I talked to so many people it’s hard to remember them all. It was such a wonderful day!

Thank you to all of our Insurance Professionals for participating. If you weren’t able to attend this year, please consider doing so next year. You will not regret it.
